About The Online Fly Tyer

Nick Pujic - Editor

Born in Europe, Nick started fly fishing for marble trout at the young age of 14, and never looked back. Close to 10 years later, Nick still has an undisputable passion for fly fishing, and fly tying. Now residing in Eastern Ontario, Nick's flies are often used to target a diverse range of fish including trout, salmon, carp, and even gar pike!

In 1998, Nick was awarded 1st place in his category at the Ontario Out of Doors Fly Tying Championships. Nick continues to tie flies, preferring to use new and innovative techniques to come up with very unique patterns.

These days Nick looks after the Online Fly Tyer, a web publication designed as a gathering place for fly tyers, fishermen and women alike.  Nick is also a member of the Canadian GATTI Pro Staff
team, and is on the executive board of the Cold Creek Fly Fishers club.  The best time to catch Nick on the water is during the Spring and Autumn migratory trout and salmon runs.

Jason Akl -  Contributor

I am a self-taught fly fisherman/fly-dresser who grew up under the bright lights of the big city, Toronto (Canada) that is. Over the last eight years fly fishing/tying has been more to me than just a weekend hobby. The sport has become the staple that most my life revolves around. I have for the past several years been a fly fishing guide, commercial tier for lodges and private clients, teaching classes, and freelance writing for different fishing websites. Small stream fly fishing for wild trout is what I enjoy the most. I like being able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a day to explore the breathtaking river scenery.  The grace of fly fishing is something that I have always loved.
The simple fact that you have a chance of hooking into a trophy trout is just icing on the cake to enjoying the wilderness.

My educational background consists of a Masters of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Florida International University, Miami, in 2001 and a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Northland College, Ashland Wisconsin, in 1999. Born in Montreal, Canada, I now call the secluded streams and vast Northwood’s of Ashland, Wisconsin home.
